Cold Weather Skincare Routine

Good evening everyone!

Okay, so I know it’s never exactly cold in Mexico, but even though the sun is still shining, there has definitely (thankfully) been a temperature drop! My skin is extremely sensitive to changes in climate (to everything, actually) so I’ve been changing up my routine a little bit in an attempt to keep my skin happy.

The air here is extremely dirty and contaminated, so cleansing is of utmost importance. I’m going to start by talking through my evening routine, since that’s what I spend more time on and I have more products to talk about!

As soon as I get home from work (at about 4PM) I’m dying to take my makeup off, so I wash my face twice with The Body Shop Seaweed Gel Wash. This was a new product I decided to try after running out of my Garnier Honey Flower Gel Wash and so far, I’ve got to say I like the latter more – it’s more calming and nourishing, which is what I could really do with at the moment! However, the Seaweed Gel Wash does a good job and deep cleansing and feels nice and fresh. I wouldn’t call it hydrating (it’s oil-balancing for combination skin) but it doesn’t strip my skin of moisture either. It’s a solid 6/10 kind of product, it does the job but there are other washes I prefer.

After cleansing, I use the toner from the same Body Shop range. This toner, on the other hand, I love. It smells amazing and does a great job of clearing away those last impurities that the cleanser missed – it’s always quite shocking to see how much more dirt comes off on the cotton pad! I’ve been using this toner for a while, particularly in the summer when I really wanted a freshening, cooling product to add to my routine – I actually kept it in the fridge, so it felt incredible after a long, hot day!

After cleansing and toning, I apply a generous amount of Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel. This is another new product I’m trying, and so far I am loving it! It absorbs so quickly and my skin instantly feels soft and smoothed. It works perfectly as a boost of hydration during the day, but it’s not exactly what I look for in a night cream, so this product is a great little extra addition to my routine. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have SPF so I can’t use it as my regular day cream, but overall I really enjoy using it and the effect it has on my skin.

After this, I’m usually make-up free for the rest of the day, so the last thing I do to my skin before sleeping is apply my night cream. This is my absolute favourite skincare item and probably the only product I have committed to for a considerable amount of time! Una Brennan Super Facialist Rose Hydrate Peaceful Skin Night Cream (a super long name, but so worth including all those adjectives) has been my skin saviour for more than a year now. I would recommend it to anyone. It’s so thick and nourishing, when I wake up in the morning my skin feels and amazing, hydrated and refreshed. It also, apparently, contains collagen boosting ingredients to help prevent wrinkles – I hope this is true because I’m starting to get extremely paranoid about fine lines! Anyway, I love everything about this night cream and I will probably be using it for a long time to come.

In addition to my normal daily routine, I use The Body Shop Tea Tree 3-in-1 Wash, Scrub and Mask about 3 times a week. My skin is dry, but I also get breakouts much more frequently than I used to, so I’m trying to fight them with an anti-bacterial, acne-fighting product. I’m also obsessed with exfoliating, so this product kills two birds with one stone. I can’t say for sure if it’s preventing break-outs, but right now my skin is fairly clear, so it’s getting a thumbs up from me.

Also when I remember (probably a couple of times a week) I use another Super Facialist product – Vitamin C Anti-Dark Circles Eye Cream. Again, I can’t really say if this is working to brighten up my eyes, but I think it helps at least a little bit. Either way, I enjoy using it and it makes my eyes feel refreshed and I think it’s doing some good by giving that delicate skin a bit of extra protection. The little tube has lasted me forever, too, so it has been good value for money.

Just one last note to mention my morning routine, if you can call slathering on day lotion a routine! I use Olay Firm and Lift Day Lotion with SPF 15, applying plenty as soon as I wake up to give it time to absorb before applying my make-up. I’m swaying more and more towards anti-wrinkle products since I started noticing frown lines, and although I don’t actually think this cream is helping in that area…it could be preventing new lines appearing! At least, it’s a great, lightweight moisturiser with oh-so-important sun protection. The bottle was affordable and has lasted well, so I would repurchase!

Well, I think that’s enough from me for today! How are your #blogtober posts going? Also let me know if you have any products that you swear by! Thanks for reading!
