Favourite Christmas Things

Hello everyone! Happy 1st day of blogmas!

I’ve got to admit, I am not at all prepared for this challenge. I’ve got a whole list of ideas and a couple of drafts written but by this time, I wanted to have a stack of posts all ready to go…but I’m the master of leaving things until the last minute, so here we are.

For my first blogmas post, I’m going to keep things simple and write about my favourite Christmas things, but as the month goes on I hope you will enjoy reading some recipes, gift ideas, wish lists, Christmas-related tags and fashion and beauty ideas! December is also the month I’m going to be starting trying to get an Instagram profile together, so if you’re feeling generous, you can get a head-start and follow me here.

Now, onto the Christmas goodies!

Favourite Christmas Song: I have a whole playlist of favourite Christmas songs, but the ones I like best are really underrated – my absolute favourite is I Believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake. I think it tends to be on Christmas compilation albums but no one seems to have ever heard of it. I also love Bright Eyes’ cover of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, My Chemical Romance’s cover of All I Want For Christmas is You and Mi Burrito Sabanero by Juanes.

Favourite Christmas Food: Pigs in blankets. No questions asked.

Favourite Christmas Movie: I really want to love Love Actually but it makes me too sad. You all know what I’m talking about. I really don’t want to love Elf but I kind of do…and my favourite movie which isn’t strictly a Christmas movie is You’ve Got Mail.

Favourite Christmas Activity: I loooove Christmas preparations, especially gift shopping and wrapping. I also love writing Christmas cards, even though I don’t really do it…I love Christmas baking and making gingerbread houses with my best friend, which has sort of become a tradition over the past couple of years. I also usually go out for a walk on Christmas morning with my Dad and dog, which is lovely if it’s cold and frosty (as Christmas should be.)

Favourite Christmas Drink: I’m a sucker for those really expensive Christmas drinks they sell in coffee chains; my favourite is a gingerbread latte.

Favourite Christmas Smell: Pretty much all smells that you can associate with Christmas…cinnamon, ginger, cloves, cookies baking, the smell of Christmas dinner cooking…I also like the smell of real Christmas trees.

Favourite Christmas Decoration: Twinkly lights! But they must not be blue.

Favourite Christmas Outfit: I didn’t really bother with ‘Christmas outfits’ until last year when I wore a red, suedette bodycon dress and black ankle boots, and I’m still very casual about the whole thing. This year I want to wear a pretty jumper, probably with leggings and ankle boots again. I feel like New Year’s Eve is the real occasion to get dressed up to the 9s.

Favourite Christmas Gift: When I was a kid, I can’t remember how old, I was really into crafts and Santa brought me a huge box (which was decorated with dogs, which I was also obsessed with) full of craft materials. It had glitter, sequins, pom poms, coloured paper…I’m sure you can imagine. It was amazing. Although, I’ve actually already kind of received my Christmas present from my parents this year. They paid for me and my boyfriend to come home from Mexico for 3 or 4 weeks, so he can join us and experience an English Christmas. This is honestly so special and important for me because Christmas is basically the time I most want to be with my family and it means so much to me that they are welcoming him, and he can meet the relatives he hasn’t already met!
